🔑 WHAT HAS CHANGED IN ISO 14001:2026?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✅ Climate Change is Now MANDATORY
The previous “Climate Action Amendment” has been fully integrated into the standard. Climate risks and opportunities must now be part of your environmental context — not optional.
✅ New Harmonised Structure (HS)
Replaces the old High Level Structure — making ISO 14001 easier to integrate with ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 45001 in an Integrated Management System (IMS).
✅ Biodiversity & Resource Use
New explicit references to biodiversity loss and sustainable resource use when assessing your organisation’s environmental context.
✅ Stronger Life Cycle Thinking
Clearer requirements on how to consider environmental impacts across the full product and service life cycle.
✅ Change Management — New Clause 6.3
If organisational changes affect your EMS, they must now be formally planned and controlled.
✅ SDGs & EU Green Deal Alignment
Sustainability goals and ESG commitments are now woven into the standard.
✅ Clarified Existing Requirements
Overall — this is an evolution, NOT a revolution. The core structure and requirements remain the same.

📅 TRANSITION TIMELINE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🟢 15 April 2026 — ISO 14001:2026 published. Transition OPEN.
🟡 2027–2028 — Certification bodies complete accreditation. First 14001:2026 certificates issued.
🔴 ~April 2029 — ISO 14001:2015 retires. Transition deadline.
